The Oxalis Trio will perform Richard Wilson‘s Deux Pas de Trois for flute, oboe and harpsichord. I first met Richard Wilson when I was a high school student studying at a summer program in Hudson, OH, in 1980. I had the honor of playing this trio on a concert of his works. It will be a joy to revisit the work 45 years later.
Also on the program is Alexandra Gardner‘s Fade for flute and fixed electronics. Fade explores the nature of human memory, which memories “stick” with us, the ways that memories transform and mutate over time, and how they can seem to vanish, only to reappear at later unexpected moments.

Amnesty International (Group 11 NYC) Annual Benefit Concert (Virtual)
For the 46th consecutive year, Group 11 of Amnesty International USA will present a benefit concert to support its activities defending human rights. This year’s program will feature music for flute and piano, soprano and piano, and piano solo. The performers are Sara Paar, soprano, Carl Gutowski, flute, and Nicholas Kaponyas and Marcia Eckert, piano. The music includes a colorful piece for flute and piano by Debra Kaye; songs set to William Blake poetry by Nailah Nombeko; Franz Liszt’s Fantasy and Fugue on the theme of B.A.C.H.; Pulitzer Prize winner Ned Rorem’s Poèmes pour la paix, set to French poems from the 15th and 16th centuries; and the incomparably beautiful Strauss song Morgen!
